The 80′s are back! Twenty years is not long enough to keep a good decade down. As a person who came of age in the 80′s I naturally feel a hint of nostalgia for that time. This year’s movie line up suggests that I’m not the only one who remembers the 80′s. G I Joe, Transformers and Tron have new movies on the way proving that the toy franchises of the 80′s still have a lot of staying power. Why don’t we see any movies based on the toys girls played with in the 80′s? I guess Rainbow Bright, Strawberry Shortcake and My Little Pony just don’t have much movie potential.

G I Joe Movie

As anime fans we have a lot to thank the 80′s for. It was a time when lots of fans in Japan were starting new animation studios and the OAV was born. Lots of 80′s anime gets remade. Megazone 23, Bubblegum Crisis and Macross come to mind immediately but there are lots of others. As a fan of science-fiction the anime of the 80′s can’t be matched. Lots of bold, new concepts were tried with little fear of viewers “not getting it.” Animation studios of today aren’t nearly as bold.

Tron 2 Movie

Gears Online has a lot to offer people who want to look into the anime of the 80′s. Stop by our list of series and see what you can find. More than half of the listings came from the 80′s.
